Additive manufacturing

AM – Additive manufacturing or the technologies of bed deposition are nowadays one of the most dynamically developing sectors of parts manufacturing on the basis of a 3D-model data. Application sphere of additive manufacturing is endless, and if earlier it was only about quick prototyping, now companies all over the world use AM for serial manufacturing of complicated parts in aerospace and auto industries, aircraft construction, implantology and others.

Technologically AM are divided into 2 types:

Bed Deposition

Preliminary bed deposition in form of a granular or liquid  construction material equally spread all over the surface of operation platform with further selective hardening of the fragments of the formed bed according to the current section of the CAD-model, for example by fusing, melting, gluing or polymerization of the particles of the model material.

Direct Deposition

Implies the supply of construction material and deposition of energy directly to the point in the area of formation of the detail part. Manufacturers use various configurations of the applied technologies depending on the aims and goals. The distinction criteria are material type (rod, paste, inblown powder), the quantity of the materials used simultaneously, the way of material supply (one-channel, polychannel, coaxial), the type of energy used (lazer, plasm, electron beam), the quantity of axes, etc. Nowadays this technology is being actively used to repair the tools outfit, to apply protection covers, as well as for manufacturing of the casting molds with a conformal cooling system, internal heat removal elements, etc.

ASTM International (American Society for Testing and Materials) – American international volunteer organization which develops and publishes various technical norms and standards concerning a vast range of materials, goods, services and systems distinguishes 7 categories of additive manufacturing
