CUS (Common Use Center) «Powder materials and nanomaterials"


Project goals:

  • Creation and integration of highly trained professionals based on the intellectual capacity and experimental equipment  
  • Development of science researches in innovation sectors of science and technology
  •  Project realization and assistance for projects in modern scientific programs implemented by universities, manufactories and research institutions in the Perm region using modern scientific programs.

Structure of the project:

The CUS combines integration and coordination of research, training and innovative capacities of PNRPU.

The main sections in CUC are:

  • Laboratory of highly-energetic nanotechnologies;
  • Laboratory of functional Materials;
  • Laboratory of powder materials;
  • Laboratory for condensed systems;
  • Metallurgical laboratory;

The main goals of the project:

Creating the conditions that allows realizing the most effective using of unique scientific equipment to satisfy scientific, technical and educational wants.

Training highly trained professional of scientific-pedagogical staff and teaching new research managers.

Assistance and positive support in the preparation of doctoral, master's thesis and master's dissertations in the sphere of material science, nanomaterials, composites and powder materials, coatings, and other areas.

Perform basic research, practical research of PNRPU, industrial manufactories and scientific institutions in Perm and Perm region.

Improving the methods of research explorations, educational processes based on unique laboratory equipment.

Develop and publication of works, made in the CUC, the improvement of training PNRPU.     

 Main research spheres of the project:

  • Organization and performance of modern complex, fundamental and applied researches in the area of powder materials, nanomaterials and coatings for scientific based on equipment of CUC;
  • Organizing, coordinating and carrying out research, development and other scientific and technical works on a contract base with companies involved in nanotechnology and nanomaterials coatings;
  • Creation and realization of low-tonnage high-tech products. Sale of technologies and "know-how". Mediation and advisory services, including in the sphere of transfer technology and commercialization;
  • Communication between CUC and different departments and other units of PNRPU during the performance of fundamental and applied research in the sphere of powder materials and nanomaterials, coatings            interaction and also implementation of the connection for educational and research PNRPU activities.
  • Collaborate with the faculties, departments and other units of PNRPU during the development and improvement of the instrument base CUC;
  • Sharing organization of the material and technical base of the Common Use Center, when PNRPU perform the scientific works in the sphere of industry of nano systems and materials and also in other areas of research;
  • Contractually assistance for metallurgical, machine-building and other manufactories in the sphere of quality control of researches and other services related to their activities, expert estimate of scientific and technical programs and projects.                  
  • Realization of information-analytical and consulting activities, including the formation of databases and other software and information products, marketing of scientific researches and high-tech products;
  • Preparation of teaching materials in the sphere of materials science;
  • Organization and perform in CCU, as well as in cooperation with universities, companies and organizations metallurgical, machine-building and other sectors of industry, technology exhibitions, conferences, seminars and meetings.


The equipment base is located in an area of Scientific Center of Powder Materials and the Department of "Powder Materials" PNRPU and equal to 8719.7 sq.

The Common Use Center is full needy equipped and annually updated to modern unique analytical, test and production equipment, used for solves the educational, scientific and industrial problems.

The Common Use Center has a complex of certified methodologies for doing researches for obtaining the nanopowders, to construct materials and products based on the following equipment.

Electronic microscopy ULTRA 55 by Carl Zeiss AG

The ULTRA 55 represents the latest development in GEMINI® technology. Based on the SUPRA™ 55, the ULTRA 55 now comprises a fully integrated Energy and angle selective Backscattered electron (EsB) detector. The ULTRA 55 offers ultra high resolution for both SE to image surface information and BSE to present compositional information. The new EsB detector features an integrated filtering grid to enhance image quality and requires no additional adjustments. The EsB detector is less sensitive for edge contrast and charging effects which enables precise imaging and measurement of boundaries, particles, and features.
Combined with the large multi-port analytical chamber, the fully motorised 5-axes motorised eucentric stage and the GEMINI® high current mode the ULTRA 55 also offers superb analytical capabilities.

SENTERRA Dispersive Raman Microscope

The SENTERRA is a high performance Raman microscope spectrometer designed for the most demanding analytical and research applications. Its most important innovation is certainly its internal continuous calibration as it ensures highest wavenumber accuracy without the need for calibrations with external standards.

The SENTERRA combines numerous novel and several patented features:

High-performance modular simultaneous TGA & DTA / DSC thermal analyzer (ambient / 2400°C) SETSYS Evolution

SETSYS Evolution is the standard for high performance TGA, TG-DSC and TG-DTA application.  It is based on a complete modular thermal analysis platform for - TGA, DTA and DSC - Simultaneous TGA/DTA and TGA/DSC - Dilatometry / TMA The key to the SETSYS TGA-DTA / DSC is Setaram’s unique symmetrical balance, a highly robust furnace configuration offering unique performance and the lowest operational costs of any system available.  The SETSYS can be configured to operate up to 2400°C and also use controlled humidity, vacuum and highly aggressive atmospheres.

X-ray diffractometer XDR-6000 by Shimadzu Scientific.

With its basic ease of use and abundant functions, the XRD-6000 boasts an integrated design featuring a vertical goniometer and data processing software supporting the Windows XP user interface.

The XRD-6000 offers solutions encompassing wide-ranging analysis requirements, from routine qualitative and quantitative analysis to state change analysis, including stress analysis, residual austenite quantitation, crystallite size / lattice strain, crystallinity calculation, materials analysis via overlaid X-ray diffraction patterns, enhanced material evaluation and sample heating analysis. And, of course, crystalline structural analysis is also supported, including precise lattice constant determination and crystal system determination.

System «Cercon Smart Ceramic» by Degudent GmbH, Germany

It is intended for the manufacture of complex parts made of zirconium oxide and ceramic materials. The unit includes: a high-temperature sintering furnace «Cercon heat» and specially designed for zirconia machine for scanning and milling «Cercon brain».

X-raying system XT H 225 ST by Nikon Metrology

The XT H 225 ST is a Computed Tomography (CT) system ideally suited to a wide range of materials and sample sizes, especially those that are too large or heavy for other systems in the range. the system has three interchangeable sources; the 225 kV reflection target, 180 kV transmission target and the optional 225 kV rotating target. Combined with the wide range of flat panel detectors to choose from, the ST system provides a flexible tool for quality laboratories, production facilities and research departments.
